Senses

The lure of free verse ..

The heart saw what the eyes could not
Hope, alive, in the sleeping child
Though it could not, its dreams see

The heart heard what the ears could not
The hurt silence of an old friend
Though for the reason it never thought to ask

The heart smelt what the nose could not
The haunting scent of old memories
Though it resisted not being swept away by the tidal wave of change

The heart felt what the fingers could not
Life in the leaves of the withering tree
Though mute it remained when the axe came

The heart tasted what the tongue could not
The freedom in the air of being at home
Though it never understood that a stranger it had become
