Translations XII

Lost in the sands of time, this name
This face changed and this form altered
But my voice still remains the same
If I am ever remembered.

This play of Time, cruel up close
Is beautiful when farther one goes.
In here, our journey incomplete
When Time stills, maybe our paths will meet.

When the sun sets and the night nears
Let this lamp of life burn brighter
Freeing the mind from all its fears
And filling it with joy and laughter

– A translation of Gulzar’s Naam Gum Jaayega from Kinara

You have quite a treasure here too 🙂
I love this song, one of my favorites, especially the second stanza “Waqt ke sitam kam haseen nahi, aaj hai yahan, kal kahin nahi, waqt se pare agar phir mile kahin”,
Such a beautiful thought, to imagine a chance meeting that is beyond time, something that is not time bound is so delightful 🙂

Thank you 🙂 Yeah, I loved the second stanza the best too. But I love the “waqt ke sitam kam hasin nahi” bit even more ..how elegantly and simply put, that harsh time is no less beautiful !
